Product Knowledge
Identify the torque-transmitting elements, then check torque, speed, shaft connections and allowable misalignment.
Identify the torque-transmitting elements
Disc, gear and flexible couplings have different constructions. Disc couplings transmit torque through disc packs, while gear couplings use meshing teeth. Flexible couplings must be further distinguished by their jaw inserts, pins, elastic blocks or other elements.
IKUSE T / D Disc CouplingEach series has a distinct construction
IKUSE T / D is a disc coupling, GIICL is a basic crowned-tooth gear coupling, LM is a basic flexible jaw coupling, and LZ is an elastic-pin gear coupling. Read the specification table and construction description for the individual series; bore diameter alone is not enough to select a coupling.
Check misalignment and operating conditions together
Check nominal torque, operating speed, starting and shock loads, and axial, radial and angular misalignment. Use the limits and conditions specified for the selected size. Do not apply one series' misalignment limits to another series.
IKUSE GIICL Crowned-Tooth Gear CouplingMaintenance depends on construction
Gear engagement, flexible elements and disc packs require different inspections and maintenance. Consider lubrication, guarding, wear parts and access for installation and removal, then follow the corresponding product instructions.
Information for selection and quotation
Provide nominal torque, operating speed and load characteristics; bores, key connections, shaft extensions and shaft-end separation; installation misalignment and alignment conditions; and requirements for lubrication, guards, wear parts and maintenance access.
